The first part of each session is a series of program orientation, starting with DepEd Balanga’s OIC-Superintendent Carolina S. Violeta reported on the status of Education in the schools division. It was followed by a talk about Tech4Ed and Amazon Kindle. Then Balanga Mayor Francis Anthony Garcia gave an inspirational message, and also shared information about the Barangay Hub where students can access various online supplemental learnings for free.
The second part of the session comprised of guest speakers who delivered great talks in line with the theme “Embracing Change in a Collaborative Community for Positive Results.”
Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales came on stage as the first speaker with his talk entitled “The Future of Education: Understanding the Generation Z.” Pocholo began his talk by sharing about his younger years, growing up in the province of Mariveles, Bataan. He took the audience to a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he recalled his adventures as a young boy, as one of the intelligent yet boisterous students in his class. He recalled that when he was in 5th grade, one teacher pushed him to believe in his greatness, which led him to become part of the honor roll during that school year. Pocholo recognized that 5th grade teacher, in the person of Superintendent Violeta!
Pocholo then transitioned to discussing his main topic, the Generation Z. He showed the audience how technology has influenced the lifestyle and behaviors of this young generation, who are the students of the modern-day classroom. With the help of some videos of future technology, Pocholo painted a picture in the minds of the teachers how the future looks like to the students when they enter adulthood. He challenged the audience to open their hearts and minds to new ways of educating, parenting and mentoring the youth of today.
Pocholo’s talk was followed by a short presentation of Voice Care for Teachers by Voice Care Philippines’ Executive Director Ada Cuaresma, who presented 3 myths about voice care that teachers need to know. The session closed with the resource speaker, Joseph Titar, who motivated the teachers to ignite their passion for teaching.
The summit session concludes with the induction of new PTA officers, led by Mayor Garcia.
