The Best Filipino and Tagalog Speaking Voice Over Artist

The VoiceMaster in Action
Pocholo Gonzales is considered a veteran voice artist even at his young age. Why wouldn’t he? His voice has been heard literally EVERYWHERE – in thousands of radio and TV commercials, dubbed anime and foreign telenovela, video games, audiobooks, drama, children’s programs and many more. He even became the voice of the Tagalog Audio Bible of Biblica, the world’s largest distributor of the Bible in different languages around the world.
Pocholo’s love for voice acting started as early as when he was 7 years old. As a kid growing up in their humble home in Mariveles, Bataan, Pocholo’s only means of entertainment back then was the radio. Every night, he would listen to this radio drama called “Gabi ng Lagim.” He began to develop a fascination on the voices he was hearing, and then started imitating them. It wasn’t long before he started acting out the ENTIRE radio drama all by himself!
Fast forward to 1996, when he was beginning his freshman year as a Speech Communication student in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, he entered the world of voice acting after winning a radio drama competition in DZMM. And, as they say, the rest is history.
Pocholo has dubbed voices for thousands of hours of animation including Gundam Seed Destiny, Negima, MegaMan, Digimon, Jumanji and Cyborg Kuro-Chan, among others. He became part of the dubbing team of the highly-rated Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden in 2003 where he dubbed Shan Cai’s father. He has also voiced hundreds of local commercials for high-profile clients like PLDT, Globe Telecom, Smart Telecom, Pepsi, National Bookstore, McDonalds, Head & Shoulders, Touch Mobile, Rebisco Crackers, and Bibo Hotdog, to name a few. In 2008, he dubbed the characters of Toti and Hal An in his first digital full-length animation movie entitled “Dayo: Sa Mundo ng Elementalia”. He was the only professional voice artist among other TV personalities who did voice-overs for the film. He also worked as a Dubbing Director for HERO TV and Cinema One.
Pocholo is, by far, the most recognized and celebrated voice artist in the country today. How many voice artists have been featured in almost all TV and radio stations, and in several newspapers, magazines and websites? And how many voice artists have established a brand, like the VoiceMaster has?
Not only that. Pocholo is the only Filipino/Asian panelist in the VoiceOver International Creative Experience (VOICE) 2012 in Anaheim, California.
For Pocholo, his fulfillment in the voice acting industry is not so much on the numerous commercials or drama or anime that he voiced. More than anything, his fulfillment lies on the fact that he has produced a new breed of voice artists through his school, the Philippine Center for Voice Acting. For 10 years, Pocholo’s school has become a hub for aspiring voice artists to develop their skills and eventually get a break in the industry. After 33 batches of students, Pocholo’s school has produced hundreds of voice artists who are now making their name in the industry – as dubbers, voiceover artists, hosts, broadcasters and many more.
It’s undeniable that Pocholo has revolutionized and professionalized the voice acting industry in the Philippines through his voice acting school. He has created a new breed of voice artists who, like him, pursue voice acting as a passion and not just another job.
Pocholo Gonzales is the VoiceMaster not because of the voices he makes, but because of the voices he has helped bring out in other people.
