The Pochologist Motivates Employees in their Monthly Pulong-Pulong

Every first Monday of the month, the employees of the Alcantara Group of Companies gather to keep abreast of updates, to touchbase across the team, and to also learn a thing or two on how they can become better in their line of work. On June 5th, Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales was invited as the guest speaker to empower the employees about having passion in their work.

Filipino motivational speaker motivates employees of Alcantara Group of Companies

After an icebreaker, Pocholo shared about his journey to discovering his passion for voice acting at a very young age, growing up in the province of Mariveles, Bataan. He then talked about how he started to pursue that passion at age 16 in DZMM, as well as the challenges and obstacles he met along the way. Pocholo also shared how he built his company and his voice acting school, fueled not only by his passion for the craft, but also for opening the doors of the industry to those who aspire to become part of it.

Pocholo used his story as an example of how important passion is in carrying out one’s work. He spoke about passion as the fire that makes a person look forward to waking up and going to work everyday, the fuel that helps a person push forth in times of adversity. And yes, Pocholo wowed the audience by doing an ensemble of voice impressions – from cartoon characters to famous personalities and celebrities.

Filipino motivational speaker talks about 8 to be GREAT

Pocholo also spoke about one of his favorite people, National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, and set him as an example of a man of passion. Pocholo talked a little bit about the history of Rizal, and how he was able to write novels, meet people and travel the world despite his lack of technology and freedom. The mini-history class became a challenge to the audience to discover their own greatness and become the best version of themselves.

Pocholo then transitioned to his main topic, “8 to be Great”. He shared to the audience the 8 qualities that make a person great – including passion, purpose and gratitude. Towards the end, Pocholo encouraged the employees to aim not just to be happy but to be great.

Over 90 PSMBFI Regional Directors from all over the Philippines gathered at the Greenhills Elan Hotel in San Juan for a whole day event of business planning and strategizing. Filipino motivational speaker teaches PSMBFI Regional Directors on Effective Communication

In the seminar entitled “Effective Communication for Leaders,” Pocholo started on an inspirational note by sharing his story. He shared how he got into voice acting, radio broadcasting, motivational speaking – and how he has developed the passion to teach other people to appreciate and care for their voice. Pocholo also discussed a little bit about the voice acting industry, and how it has evolved from when he started more than two decades ago. And yes, he also amazed the audience with his repertoire of voice character impressions!

Pocholo then proceeded to the main topic on effective communication, with a focus on the voice. He sent the powerful message that the voice is the most powerful human instrument, as it has the power to start a war or express the greatest love. He then talked about 4 important qualities of an effective communication, which he summed up in an acronym of the Filipino word LAHI – love, authenticity, honesty and integrity. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” were the wise words of the VoiceMaster. He said that in order for people to want to communicate with you, they should feel that your intentions are pure and clean.

Pocholo also discussed the different elements of the voice such as pitch, volume, prosody, and timbre, and how these elements affect the quality and the meaning that one’s message is trying to convey. He then ended his presentation by reminding the participants that at the end of the day, it’s not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it.

Pocholo then called onstage one of his trainers in Pochology Academy, Ada Cuaresma. Dubbed as the “Voice Care Queen,” Ada is the Executive Director of Voice Care Philippines, and has worked with the VoiceMaster to conduct workshops all over the country. Ada was a student of the VoiceMaster in his voice acting school.

Pochology Academy was invited to conduct a whole-day Team Effectiveness and Leadership Workshop on the first day of the event. The goal of the workshop is to teach and instill leadership principles to SLDCC’s employees, which they can apply to their day-to-day functions in the workplace.

The program started with a powerful motivational talk from Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales, Founder of Pochology Academy. Pocholo set the energy high during his talk, entertaining the audience with his witty stories, hugot lines, and repertoire of character voices. He shared the story of his journey as the VoiceMaster, from starting with a small dream to becoming an instrument to enable others to pursue theirs. He also told of his struggles and challenges that fueled him to live a life of passion and purpose. At the end of his talk, he encouraged the audience to create meaning in their work. His unforgettable piece of advice: “love your job, and your job will love you back.”

Pocholo’s inspiring talk was followed by the workshop proper, which was facilitated by one of Pochology Academy trainers, Ada Cuaresma. The workshop started with a discussion on trust, which Ada identified as the “heart of leadership.” The participants were divided into groups, who took turns to role-play scenarios of low trust in the workplace.

After lunch, Pocholo came back onstage to share more principles on leadership. He talked about vision, passion and influence as the keys to being the kind of leader that people would want to follow. After his talk, Ada facilitated a workshop on communication, the most crucial skill for a leader to learn and develop. The workshop tackled 3 important aspects of communication, especially for leaders in the workplace: listening, giving encouragement and handling conflict. The workshop closed with an action planning session, where the participants were asked to write down concrete, actionable steps to apply what ther learned when they go back to the workplace.

The day capped off with a double-celebration for SLDCC – the company’s 25th anniversary and the birthday of their President, Ms. Anita Uy – which Ada and Pocholo also hosted.

After some introduction and welcome remarks, the workshop began with a motivational talk by the VoiceMaster on how to speak so people will listen. During his presentation, the VoiceMaster demonstrated and shared the tools and techniques that he uses that made him one of the country’s most sought-after speakers. He emphasized that the first thing speakers need to develop is the mindset that they are public speakers in all shapes and forms, and that they should see speaking engagements as a two-way communication with the audience, instead of a lecture.

The VoiceMaster also inspired the participants to look at public speaking not just as a way to communicate their message to an audience, but also as an avenue to express what they are passionate about in a way that is inspiring and motivating to their audience. He also spoke about the power of the voice, and encouraged the participants to look at their voice as the “force” that can transform the lives of those that would receive their message.
